Professor Tong Joo (TJ) Gan is the Head of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, USA. He is internationally known for his clinical research in perioperative outcomes and anesthetic pharmacology with over 350 peer-reviewed manuscripts. Professor Gan is the primary author of the four international consensus guidelines on the management of postoperative nausea and vomiting, including the one published in 2020. He is the Founding President of the American Society for Enhanced Recovery and Perioperative Medicine (ASERPM), Immediate Past President of the Perioperative Quality Initiative (POQI), Past President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA) and the International Society for Anesthetic Pharmacology (ISAP). He serves as the Perioperative Medicine Section Editor of Anesthesia and Analgesia and is on the Editorial Board of Perioperative Medicine.
Associate Professor Hairil Abdullah is a Senior Consultant and the founding Clinical Director of Perioperative Services, in Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He has led the team which revamped the preoperative process in SGH, resulting in the creation of Preoperative Assessment Centre, a one-stop multidisciplinary center to assess and optimize patients prior to elective surgeries. Professor Abdullah has also championed multiple perioperative initiatives including perioperative Patient Blood Management program, Prehabilitation prior to surgery program and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways. His focus now is being the Director for Value-based Healthcare at both Singapore General Hospital, and the SingHealth group of hospitals. He is concurrently an Associate Professor for Research at the DukeNUS Medical School, and funded by the Singapore NMRC for his research in healthcare data science and AI applications.
Professor Mike Grocott is a Professor of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Southampton and Director of the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Southampton Biomedical Research Centre. He chairs the NIHR Directors Forum and is Deputy-Chair of NIHR Translational Research Collaboration in Surgery and Perioperative Care which he has jointly established with Professor Jane Blazeby (University of Bristol). He has published widely in relation to anaesthesia, perioperative and critical care from experimental medicine, through large clinical trials to health services research and health economics. In 2024 he co-founded the Centre for Perioperative Health Economics and Policy (CPHEP; www.cphep.com.au) and now serves as co-director.
Professor Diansan Su is Chief Physician, Researcher, and Doctoral Supervisor in the Department of Anesthesiology at The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. He holds prominent leadership roles nationally, serving as Vice Chairman of the Youth Committee in both the Anesthesiologist Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Chinese Society of Integrated Traditional and Western Medicine Anesthesiology, and as Chairman-Elect of the Anesthesia New Technology Promotion Society. Professor Su’s research primarily focuses on Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction (POCD) and mechanisms of cerebral injury. As Principal Investigator for 4 National Natural Science Foundation projects, he has published 24 SCI-indexed articles as first or corresponding author. He completed research fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard University. His work explores anesthetic neuroprotection and innovative techniques to improve neurological outcomes following surgery.
